Laura Crocker selected as Laurier’s Outstanding Woman in 2012

Wilfrid Laurier University has selected Varsity Women’s skip Laura Crocker as the 2012 Outstanding Woman of Laurier at a ceremony held today at the Waterloo Inn in Waterloo, Ontario.

Before an audience of 300 and following a keynote address by former Canadian Women’s hockey captain Cassie Campbell-Pascall, Crocker was named to the honour over fellow students Hanna Burnett and Caitlin Muirhead.

A two-time academic all-Canadian, Crocker said:

“I want to thank Laurier for giving me the opportunity to excel as an athlete, as a student and as a community volunteer,” Crocker told the crowd after accepting her award. “As female athletes, we do face challenges, but we do have very big dreams. We all want to be at the Olympics one day, but we know we will never get there without a room full of people like you supporting women’s athletics.”

Along with her teammates Sarah Wilkes, Jen Gates, Cheryl Kreviazuk, and Pam Feldkamp, Laura and her CIS Championship rink will represent Canada at the winter games of the Universiade to be held in Italy in 2013.

Congratulations, Laura!
